The prevailing winds of the day indicate that Millenials do not like Hillary or any of the Republicans. Millenials need to be hip, ironic and unique as well as fiercely non-confrontational and non-committal. This explains the beards, dark glasses, non-committal dating and loyal support to Bernie Sanders. Bernie is a nice guy who really believes in socialism. More importantly, he is not Hillary. Millenials are also highly intelligent which is why it baffles me that so many of them are supporting a socialist. Issues aside, Bernie is hip, cool, cute, and harmless. This is enough for many millenials.
My generation really should support Donald Trump. Here’s why:
He is anti-establishment.
The Republican Trump is angering more Republicans than Democrats. He’s mocking the political establishment and he’s even mocking the press. Trump is making fools out of all of them right now which is both hilarious and what Millenials actually like. The type of energy behind him reminds me of the early days of Ron Paul. Paul’s problem is that he had the old cute codger thing going for him and didn’t have the muscle to bloody enough Republican noses.
He speaks his mind.
As a millennial, I love openness and honesty. I tire of the plastic, pre-rehearsed statements. Unlike many other voters, the eventual nominee doesn’t bring me into the fold after the primaries settle since I have no idea what any of the candidates really believe or are actually capable of. Being a millennial, I like sitting cross-legged, talking about eastern wisdom and being “real.” Trump is real – he says what he believes and you can be sure that he means it.
He’s left wing
- Wants to roll back many of the free trade agreements.
- Believes that a global marketplace is not necessarily an intrinsic good.
- Supports exceptions to abortion (I truly believe that most lefties believe the same thing – that abortion should not be used as a tool for birth control).
- Supports Affirmative Action
- Is anti stupid war.
- Believes we should stay out of foreign entanglements.
- Believes that the American Dream is dead.
He’s right wing
- Wants to throw lots of cash at the military.
- Wants to bomb the shit out of ISIS.
- Who loves money more than Donald Trump?
- Has a hard line stance on illegal immigration.
- Loves the USA
When I look at his leftward stances and rightward stances, I see that he holds many left wing positions. His immigration opinions get more airtime than anything else, but it really overshadows his stances overall. He’s his own man and he formed his own opinions. He’s not a checklist Republican that is just going to spout the party line and get on my nerves while I try to enjoy some organic Kale. Bernie’s socialist ideas are not going to go anywhere and you know it. Even if he were correct, he doesn’t have the leadership capabilities to get anything through congress. Trump is a true alternative with moderate views and the personality to boot.
So, fellow Millenials – shave that beard, swap out those dark glasses for some good contacts, comb your hair over, get a tan and let’s make America great again!
